The sport of whitewater kayaking
is growing rapidly across the country and especially in Virginia with the availability of
so many good whitewater rivers. It is a very exciting yet "user friendly"
sport. Adventure Challenge would like to work with you to assure
your experience learning this fun sport is enjoyable. Learning the basics correctly
will increase your learning curve for a positive paddling experience. We have trips
and lessons with both "decked kayaks" and "open-top kayaks".
What a great way to enjoy many of our parks and rivers! We hope that you or a group you are associated with will join us for some fun! Hotel and camping accommodations are available if you are coming
to Richmond from out of town.
Two Day Beginner Course - Learn to experience the fun and exhilaration of
paddling whitewater in a kayak from ACA Certified Instructors. The first day of a two day
beginner course starts with the basics on calm water. It begins with a review of basic
kayak equipment and instruction on river safety, what to do if the kayak flips over with
you in it (quick "wet exits", Eskimo rescues), proper strokes and turns, and how
to roll a kayak (Eskimo roll). The second day you will sharpen and adapt those skills on
whitewater. Also, you will be learning more about whitewater safety, understanding how
river currents and features affect your boat, playing techniques, and more. Adventure
Challenge's head instructors are A.C.A. Certified
and all instructional classes maintain at least a 4:1, student to instructor ratio and a
maximum class size of 8 participants. This is our standard to
offer an outstanding event. Cost: $130, includes use of all necessary equipment. Check the
Two Day Beginner Course Schedule for times and dates.
Women's Two Day Beginner Course - Experience all the fun of the Two Day
Beginner Course in a class tailored for women and taught by women. Cost: $130, includes
use of all necessary equipment. Check the Women's Two Day Beginner

includes use of all necessary equipment. Check the One Day Trip /
Intermediate Schedule for times and dates.
